I've always made my spaghetti sauce with a packet mix ... and then I'd look up a recipe, or check the ingredients on the packet, and add extra herbs/spices. But then I got lazy [lazier] and started buying the jar sauce. A young woman I used to babysit, who visits me every so often, told me she misses my homemade spaghetti sauce. I told her to get the packet. Come to find out, she had seen me look up the ingredients in a cookbook and assumed I was making it from scratch. So, this got me to thinking. The jar sauce I get isn't flavorful enough to me ... hmm ... but it has the extra ingredients I add to the packet mix ... hmm ... what if I put the two together?
So, I did. And we both loved it. After a few reheatings, the sauce got thicker and thicker ... so, I'm wondering if I should use two jars of sauce per one packet, or if I should add tomato juice or diced/stewed tomatoes to the pot. I think I'll try the juice or tomatoes first.
